Great Business Training Opportunities for WIN in 2010
24th January 2010

After a period of quiet and relative inactivity things are set to get a lot busier for WIN members in 2010.

On January 20th both old and new members were treated to a 'gallop' through the phenomenon that is 'Social media'.  As Jan Spencer, Women's Development Officer from Women Do Business commented: 'We now know exactly what we don't know'.
Tim Evans from 'Cosmic' did a brilliant job, convincing us all we need to know more about podcasts, twitter, You tube, Forums, etc to be truly up to date in the 21st Century business arena.  This was only a taster, enticing us to sign up for the full training session to be run in a few weeks time.

Jan Spencer also informed us about the many training opportunities open to local business women now that the Watermark has been designated an Enterprise Hub.  We can look forward to a state of the art Website, business training on all aspects of enterprise from start up to development and growth.  For more information contact WIN on 10752 283953

Our first AGM! Plus talk on 'The best business advice in this economic climate'
11th November 2008

Women's Ivybridge Network 1st Annual General Meeting

4/11/08

Erme Lodge Ivybridge

First part of evening, guest speaker Janet Herniman from the North Devon Plus group spoke on the topic-

'The best business advice for this economic climate'

She started by saying that although we are a small group, that that was something to value which was reassuring.

I have done a separate transcript of her business advice so if you want to read that you can. (That will follow at a later date!)

Peter Stacey from Business Link, also gave us a quick reminder about how they can help with business support.

There are many different 'clinics' that are available for the small business sector so if you press on the link for their website, it'll give you all the info he gave us.

The Best Business Advice for this Economic Climate
14th October 2008

The WIN group are organising an Autumn event to lure women out of their homes.  It is being held at
Erme Lodge, Western Road, Ivybridge, PL21 9AN
7.30 pm  All Welcome!

We want you to be warmed by our friendliness and homemade tea and cakes.  We also want you to be inspired by the best possible business advise in this economic climate.  We don't want women business owners to be alone worrying about how their business may be affected.  We intend to join forces and offer each other the support and encouragement we all need to keep us positive in these challenging times.

As part of this evening women in the WIN group are eagerly awaiting their first ever AGM!  This will take place at 8.30 after scrummy homemade cakes and our inspiring speaker.  More details to follow.

Women's Ivybridge Network to be come official!
27th August 2008

We are working behind the scenes to organise W.I.N into a voluntary. constituted group.  This means that in the near future (probably 4th November - confirmation very soon) we will hold our very first AGM.

This is an important milestone for the group as it will lay down an agreed, written constitution and officers will be elected to carry out the business of the group.  If you would like to be involved in this important process, setting out the future direction of our activities please come along to our next meeting on the 30th September.

We are also keeping our fingers crossed that we will be successful in obtaining more WAM funding.  Watch this space!

Where do we go from here?
29th April 2008

Having reached the milestone of the end of our WAM funding on March 31st a group of dedicated WIN women met to discuss the future for the group.

Jan Spencer was on hand to guide us through the options.  We were quickly in agreement that the group was a very positive influence in our lives.  There was a strong feeling of great potential and importance for the group in the future.

We looked at several options and finally agreed on becoming a consititued group.  This means over the next few months we will formulate a constitution, organise officer roles and agree date for an Annual General Meeting.  It was agreed that the AGM would be an excellent opportunity to launch the website and look to attract new members.  We felt that until then we would not organise any events.

However we did agree an exciting new programme called Action Learning.  Every other month the idea is for one or two women to volunteer to present their business to us.  It will be an opportunity for support, encouragement, challenge, market research, anything the presenter feels appropriate for their business development.  Jan stressed the need for us to commit to regular attendence so everyone has a fair chance of show casing their business.

It was a productive meeting with even those unable to attend contributing valuable suggestions before and after the session.  Many thanks to everyone for coming up with a clear way forward.

Diana Boutique Fashion Show 27th March 2008
12th April 2008

W.I.N. attended this popular event which was in aid of Huntington's Disease.  At the interval members of the public were able to chat with women from the group who had set up a table displaying items and leaflets promoting their individual businesses.

W.A.M. Gala Dinner 6th March 2008
7th March 2008

The W.I.N women and all the W.A.M. groups across Devon came together for the first time at the Gala Dinner on th 6th March 2008.  The event was held at the Roadford Lake Conference Centre, a grand, rural setting needing keen powers of navigation for all drivers!

It was a busy, inspiring fun packed evening.  Delicious, hearty, food was served while tables of women and (men) networked and found out about each others projects.  With dinner over, we set up camp with our own groups and listened to Sally Hirst who inspired us with her witty account of how 'The Old Bag Company' was conceived, born and nurtured into a very successful global business.

Awards followed next and it was incrediable to hear about the sheer number and variety of courses and training opportunities women had enjoyed.  It was excellent  to see women being rewarded for their hard work and valued for their many differing achievements.

There was a brief opportunity to see examples of work from each group on display and time for more frantic networking but sadly, all too quickly the evening ended.  The event represented the winding up of the current two year W.A.M. project for some groups but felt very much like the beginning of a new phase of couragous, inspired women's business activity.

Many thanks to Jan Spencer and her team for organising the event.
